Preserving a Poet's Voice in Print

”Lepey” multimedia book

I designed a unique multimedia book for Ryhor Baradulin, one of Belarus' defining poets, where every word appears handwritten rather than typeset. The concept preserved the poet's authentic voice by photographing his personal handwritten notes and transferring them directly to the book pages. The project required extensive digital restoration of Baradulin's original drawings and illustrations, which were scattered throughout his manuscripts.

For functional elements like the table of contents and publication information, I created a custom synthesized font that replicated Baradulin's handwriting style. The complete package included a protective case, photo folder, and CD audiobook envelope, transforming the book into a complete artistic object that extended far beyond traditional book design.

Ryhor Baradulin noted: "At first I was cautious about this idea: how will it turn out?.. Then I liked it more and more. And when I saw the finished book, I thought I expected anything, but not quite like this!.."
